Chicken Biryani Recipe
Chicken Biryani is a popular rice dish that is made with chicken, spices, and rice. Here is a basic recipe for making Chicken Biryani:
Ingredients:
1 lb boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
1 cup basmati rice
2 cups chicken broth
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 teaspoon biryani masala powder
Salt, to taste
2 tablespoons oil or ghee
1 cinnamon stick
2 cardamom pods
2 cloves
1 bay leaf
1 cup mixed vegetables (optional)
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup chopped cilantro or mint leaves
1/4 cup fried onions
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup cashew nuts
1/4 cup slivered almonds
Instructions:
- Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes.
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat.
- Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and bay leaf. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the onion and cook until softened and lightly browned.
- Add the garlic and ginger paste, and cook for another minute.
- Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and biryani masala powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the mixed vegetables (if using) and stir.
- Drain the rice and add it to the pot with the chicken and spices.
- Add the chicken broth and yogurt, and bring to a boil.
- Add the raisins, cashew nuts and slivered almonds, and stir.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and remove from heat.
- Garnish with fried onions, cilantro or mint leaves and serve.
